Funding Benefits Students Across Campus
February 10, 2014
Each year the LAII provides funding to undergraduate and graduate students both within and beyond the Latin American Studies program. Students across campus are awarded Field Research Grants, PhD Fellowships, and Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships In 2013, this funding supported research across a range of topics and departments.
The LAII is proud to announce that it has begun featuring profiles of the students who have earned these competitive grants and fellowships. The profiles provide a clear indication of the disciplinary diversity and academic rigor supported by these funding competitions.
Nearly all of these students are now featured on the website, including those who in 2013 were Field Research Grant recipients, PhD Fellowship recipients, and FLAS Fellowship recipients. Their respective research and academic trajectories are explored thorough photography and snapshot descriptions.
The breadth of departments represented in the LAII's funding allocations reflects the LAII's mission to create a stimulating environment for the production and dissemination of knowledge of Latin America and Iberia at UNM. Students who were awarded represent the following departments: Archaeology; Anthropology; Architecture; Art & Art History; Communication & Journalism; Community & Regional Planning; Environmental Planning & Design; Foreign Languages; History; International Studies; Landscape Architecture; Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies; Latin American Studies; Political Science; Spanish & Portuguese; and Special Education.
