Title of Dissertation : A Grammar of Sanapaná (Enlhet-Enenlhet, Paraguay) with Special Attention to Variation

In my dissertation, I investigate the relationship between the linguistic structure of Sanapaná (an indigenous language spoken by around 1000 people in Paraguay) and the process of language endangerment it is undergoing. Specifically, I investigate whether Sanapaná speakers who are also proficient in Spanish and/or Paraguayan Guarani show changes in their use of Sanapaná under influence of their second(/third) language. I also investigate whether such multilingual Sanapaná speakers who live immersed in a Spanish-dominant environment show such changes to a larger extent than multilingual speakers who live in a Sanapaná-dominant community and therefore use Sanapaná on a daily basis. I investigate these questions through
case studies: one that deals with the pronunciation of Sanapaná vowels, one that deals with the use of possessive constructions in Sanapaná, and one that deals with the expression of motion events in Sanapaná.
